HS4U Project

Healthy Ship 4 U (HS4U) is a cross-national 3-year long Research and Innovation Action (01/09/2022- 31/08/2025), supported by the European Union within the framework of the Horizon Europe programme. The project involves a multidisciplinary consortium of 22 partners from 8 different countries. Its objective is to develop and demonstrate holistic ship design solutions aiming to facilitate early detection, prevention, and mitigation of health crises and disease outbreaks in large passenger and cruise ships.

One of the main assets of the project is the creation of the Collaborative Digital Framework (CDF), an AI-driven data and analytics platform that enables machine-human interaction, ensuring real-time monitoring of ship systems, risk assessment, and critical support to the ship crew during emergencies. Alongside, the project’s Viral Detection Sensor will provide real-time indication of the location of pathogenic airborne spreads in indoor environments and on the HVAC outlets, facilitating control of actuators and prompt response mechanisms. The project also employs multi-player gaming simulations for crew training to improve its reaction during health crises on board.

Finally, the project’s “robot-cabin” will serve as a real-life demonstrator of the HS4U cutting-edge solutions allowing for adaptable deployment in diverse settings. By embodying a commitment to safety, innovation, and excellence in ship operations, the HS4U will develop innovative technologies and share best practices, protocols, and recommendations to be followed during emergency situations, paving the way for a healthier and safer future at sea in the post-COVID era.
