OVERHEAT Project Showcases Innovative Fire Prevention Results at SIGA2 Conference

The OVERHEAT project was proudly represented at the SIGA2 Conference, held from 7–9 May 2025 in Antwerp, Belgium. With over 400 abstracts submitted and around 200 selected for presentation, the event brought together global experts and stakeholders in maritime safety, offering an excellent platform to share knowledge and groundbreaking developments.

The OVERHEAT project contributed through a paper titled “Container Fire Accidents and Incidents on Container Ships: Global Practices and Trends”, presented by the project partner DITS. The presentation reignited discussion on the persistent issue of fire safety aboard container vessels and stressed the urgent need for innovative solutions in this field.

The paper showcased the initial results of the project’s ongoing development of a novel fire prevention system. Preliminary control tests demonstrated that the proposed approach significantly outperforms conventional systems currently in use, marking a promising step forward in maritime safety technologies.

Beyond the technical sessions, participants also had the opportunity to visit the Port of Antwerp on 7 May, further enriching the discussion around real-world challenges and applications.

The OVERHEAT project’s participation in SIGA2 underlined its commitment to fostering innovation and safety in the maritime sector, and the positive reception of the presented results highlights the relevance and potential impact of the work being carried out.
