The OVERHEAT Project at AIM 2025: Digital Innovation for Safer Maritime Emergency Response

From May 21st to 23rd, 2025, the OVERHEAT project was presented at the 30th edition of the Association Information et Management (AIM) Conference in Lyon, a landmark event exploring the impact of digital technologies on organizations and society.

This year’s conference focused on how rapid technological innovations — such as Artificial Intelligence and blockchain — are reshaping organizational structures, theoretical frameworks, and methodologies in the field of Information Systems. The event also encouraged interdisciplinary contributions and discussions on the societal impact and ethical use of emerging technologies.

As part of the research track focusing on the digitalization of maritime sector, OVERHEAT contributed to this dialogue by presenting the results of the identification of the user requirements of the concerned actors by container ships firefighting. ENSM project partner highlighted how digital transformation can support fire prevention and emergency management on containerships using new technologies as UAVs images, smart sensors and new cartographical standards.

The presentation showcased how the digitalization of the maritime domain can help create a common operational picture among emergency response teams, significantly improving coordination and situational awareness during firefighting operations at sea. This contribution sparked the interest of researchers and practitioners working at the intersection of information management and maritime safety.

The participation of OVERHEAT in AIM 2025 marks an important step in raising awareness about the challenges and opportunities of digital tools in complex, high-risk environments — and reinforces the project’s commitment to fostering innovation for a safer, more resilient maritime sector.
