From June 16 to 19, 2025, the OVERHEAT project proudly took part in OCEANS 2025, one of the most prestigious international conferences focused on maritime technologies and sustainable ocean practices, held this year in Brest, France. The event gathered more than 800 experts from across the globe — including engineers, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders — to explore innovative solutions for the safe and sustainable use of the ocean, our planet’s largest natural resource.
OVERHEAT presented the architecture of the OVERHEAT Digital Solution (DS), detailing how it supports the project’s core mission to innovate fire prevention and management on containerships. It provided the background on the necessity of preventing maritime fires to save the oceans, emphasizing the broader environmental stakes. The DS architecture consists of Vessel DS and Port DS, ensuring seamless integration between offshore and onshore fire management operations. The system collect real-time data from sensors and drones, employs the S-100 IHO standard for structured data sharing, leverages a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) for interoperability, and applies predictive analytics to optimize fire detection and response coordination. This architecture facilitates shared situational awareness (SSA) among emergency responders both at sea and onshore, enhancing collaboration during maritime fire incidents.
Participation in OCEANS 2025 was particularly valuable for OVERHEAT, as the conference provided a truly multidisciplinary environment where maritime safety challenges could be discussed from both technological and operational perspectives. It allowed the project team to engage directly with professionals from the broader maritime innovation ecosystem, gaining critical feedback and visibility within a community deeply invested in marine resilience and crisis management.
By contributing to this global dialogue, OVERHEAT strengthened its role in shaping the future of maritime emergency response. The experience also reinforced the importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing complex issues like containership fires, where real-time situational awareness and data sharing are essential for minimizing risk and saving lives.
OVERHEAT’s presence at OCEANS 2025 not only showcased its cutting-edge digital tools but also demonstrated the project’s commitment to supporting a safer, smarter maritime domain — in line with the event’s broader goals of advancing ocean technologies and fostering a sustainable, resilient blue economy.
